Exciting collaboration with super vocalist Funch!

almost 2 years ago today, coincidentally we bumped into a great vocalist in a nightclub somewhere in Holland. Funch was doing a show there and we were both very impressed by what we heard. Funch is a big dude and so is his voice.

His sound is the classic vintage soulfull blues sound of the Delta. So huge and full of character! Exactly what we had been looking for, a long time. Immediately we were wondering how would that voice sound with our collection of vintage instruments? Well, the answer was obvious: there would be nothing so good for his voice as the classic Hammond or the warm Fender Rhodes or the deep Wurlitzer! The challenge would be to fit it in the typical (sometimes melancholic, here and there tongue in cheek but always deep and warm) sound of Adani&wolf. A challenge we were eager to meet!

So we made contact that night and it really clicked. We made an appoinment with him to join us in our Supperclub Christmas show that year. That was a great party and Funch jammed with us, and it really rocked. It confirmed our ideas about him strongly!

Unfortunately Funch had to leave on his tour arround the world playing everywhere. From the US to Dubai to Singapore. We didnt get the chance to get him in our vintage gear filled studio than.

But we always stayed in close contact via Facebook. And now on his first return to the Netherlands, we met again. That was 2 days ago. And this time we sure as hell got him into the studio. Put a classic tube mic infront of him, straight thru a vintage valve pre-amp and did some recordings! Just a litlle get together, a little sniffing each other out. The material recorded confirmed everything we hoped for: it's gonna be great!! Fitting perfectly in the (new) Adani&Wolf sound. Soon there will be soundbytes on this page to check it out!

Well keep you posted!

The New Adani&Wolf Soundlab

Since Roberto Adani returned from Spain in august, Adani&Wolf have been looking eagerly for a new place to brew their sounds.
Several options were checked out the last few weeks. But to find the right place with the right vibe wasn’t so easy, it appeared.

Until they stumbled onto a place not so far from the center of Amsterdam. This place is located in an old chewing gum factory and is now
filled with all kind of artist doing their creative stuff. Dance, painting, photography, music, sculpting - a real breeding ground! The creative vibes
flowing all over the place and thus a perfect place for the new Adani&Wolf studio!

The only thing is that in their space there used to be a kind of a machine room. Tiles everywhere, tubes running a cross the place,
funny looking measurement equipment on the wall. Real industrial! And.. anacoustic nightmare. But nothing that A&W can’t fix after the marble acoustic horror of their Spanish studio. So it’s back to work, constructing these isolation panels, fixing them on the wall and ceiling. Puting in a wooden floor etc. And that’s exactly what they’re doing on the moment. Getting the new lab operational asap!! There’s a new album just
waiting to be finished!

Step by step pictures of the whole studio preperation will be in the A&W gallery on the site (and facebook!) from now on .

Check it out and follow the operation!

The adventure in Southern Spain

Adani&Wolf and the adventure in Southern Spain

It was april 2010 when Adani&Wolf opened their musiclab in Andalucia, Spain. The idea was to create for a certain period a really inspirational creative environment. Weather, view, space, food, nature, all those things optimised, to see how that would result in a near to perfect working atmosphere and what does that mean musically.

The experiment was a succes as we can say almost 1,5 years later, looking back in retrospective! In this period we have created 2 full albums. One was released in september 2010, titled ‘Into the Outback’. The second one is almost finished and will be released in the fall of 2011. Both of the albums breathe the vibe of Andalucian atmosphere. Warm, southern, broiling, lucious, spicy etc.

A beautiful thing what also happend while we were there was the discovery of a fantastic female vocalist. Suzette Moncrief was pointed out to us by someone who we had just met in Spain, with the words: “you should check her out, she’s fantastic!” That was exactly what we did and it turned out
to be one of those mysterious, magical lucky shots, because she actualy was more than fantastic!! She has a thrilling voice and she will be featured really big on the second ‘Spanish’album.

Apart from working in the studio, we also performed several times on super nice places on the coast of Andalucia. The response of the people was heartwarming, really nice!

All and all we had a great 1,5 year! And now it’s time for a new chapter. The studio is coming back to Amsterdam, where we found a new working space in De Kauwgomballen fabriek in Amsterdam to create a new Adani&Wolf musiclab. From there we will be brewing our new stuff the coming
time. Exciting prospect!!
